28th IFUW Conference

Western Australia 410 August 2004

The 28th IFUW Conference hosted by the Australian Federation of University Women was held in the state capital of

PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Perth is on the West coast of Australia and enjoys a Mediterranean climate. August is the first month of spring and wildflowers will be awakening.

Air travel was simple. Perth International Airport is serviced by many overseas flights daily as well as internal flights for those who wished to stop en route to see Australian wonders: Sydney Opera House, Coral reefs, Ayers Rock and, of course, Adelaide. AFUW in South Australia was delighted to welcome travellers even though illness prevented the group from hosting the conference. Train buffs could travel from Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide across the desert to Perth on one of the Great Trains of the World.

Visitors to Perth and Western Australia always exclaim: Ah, but this is the best of all.

Extra days were needed to explore Perth Cultural Centre, climb the Bell Tower by the wide Swan River, where the ancient bells of St. Martins in the Fields are hung, and walk through hundreds of acres of bushland a stones throw from the city centre. Remember the Americas Cup race off Fremantle? This faithfully preserved port city is just a local bus ride from Perth.

AFUW in Western Australia was excited to be given the opportunity to host the 28th Conference and l gave all a terrific welcome.
